yes, the idea is not to push iconoclasm of course, but in my humble opinion (or not so humble?) some non-essential customs and devotions are best kept away from places where they will be a certain stumbling block to the local people. The habad site is great, I often consult it for Rashi's commentari...

the poll is a good one; the only problem is, it needs a 'all of the above' answer, or at least the possibility of selecting multiple options! Yes, Marian veneration is a biggie (that was my vote), though statues, the pope, and the history of Jewish/Christian relations are also major stumbling blocks...

hi Rob - welcome to the website and to the forum! Hopefully the site will help you to answer some of your friend's questions/objections she may have against the Catholic Church, and since you will probably learn much from her too, it looks like it will be a fruitful exchange. Check out our online co...

to me such a letter displays a good intent but is meaningless in the best of cases and even potentially dangerous. Of course everyone wants peace. But its endorsement of a two-state solution completely ignores the fact that Islam will never recognize a Jewish state in the Middle East and that most I...

Greetings and welcome Cherie, Here in Israel, almost all Messianic believers call Jesus by his Hebrew name 'Yeshua.' Unfortunately most Catholics don't even know that this is his real name. On the other hand, most Israelis who don't believe in Jesus call him 'Yeshu' which forms the initials of "...

Ok, my two bits here in response to your exchange… I can understand both your positions. I agree with Athol that Hadassah’s questions can seem a bit insensitive, however I’m also sure that she did not intend them to be. As Athol said, many Catholics still display rather arrogant attitudes regarding ...

Hi Thoma, What you are writing doesn't surprise me. Unfortunately our Jewish mom Miriam (Mary) has been and continues to be a major point of contention between Catholics and Protestants to our own day. To me personally she was one of the biggest stumbling blocks to my returning to the Catholic Churc...
