Sad History

Hello All,

I am cut to the heart just a bit and wondering if a little discussion on the matter isn't in order. I am overwhelmed just now by the fact that the past history between Jews and Christians effectively obscures the very revelation of God. It seems to me that, in a very real way it hides the true depth of God's love for mankind that Christ came to reveal. Perhaps you agree or disagree? As individual Catholics, do we take this fact seriously enough? Do you think that God is calling us collectively to something that might perhaps brighten the light of the city on the hill?

Blessings,
Hadassah

Hello Haddasah,

Was there something in particular in past history that you are alluding to?

I think I might know where your coming from.
I personally feel sadness too that as Christians - how did we end up from Pentecost - to the middle ages, ie. Inquisition, Crusades etc. where Jews were persecuted as well. Also some anti-semitic writings from our own Church Fathers to boot...

I know St.Paul said that the Jewish people would be hated by Gentiles for our sake, but still beloved by God for the sake of their forefathers...this is still a great mystery to me...so it must be in Gods grand plan for human kind that all this is to happen.

As for all of this obscuring the revelation of God? Absolutely.
I know too well that alot of people try to look for the "fruits" of the church and its people and I think the history of the Catholic Church has'nt helped too much in this area - especially helping the Jewish-Christian relations.

To paraphrase Gahndi himself...."If Christians would really live according to the teachings of Christ, as found in the Bible, all of India would be Christian today."
I wonder if the same could be said for the Jewish people?

I feel that as Gods children - we are the light on the hill. In this generation I think their is more need to spiritually wake up and shout from the roof tops!

I really feel that Yeshua is coming soon - maybe not my lifetime...but soon - the whole world is falling into an apostasy of faith and pervesness of likes of Sodom & Gomorah.
Lord Yeshua - Come soon!!

Peace,
Rob

Hello Rob,

Read this morning about rains in Queensland (and snakes seeking rain-free haven). I hope that you are keeping dry and snake-free!

I am referring to the conglomeration of events and stances over the years. Anti-semitism, pogroms, ideas that excluded honest and open God-loving and God-fearing Jews from heaven. I love the Church and I trust her implicitly. But there is a beautiful expression of God's love (Christ Himself) that is obscured. In the really wonderful novel My Name Is Asher Lev, Asher's mother looks at a painting of Christ on the Cross (or the cross in general, I can't recall now). She is horrified and says something along the lines of, "Do you know how many Jews have suffered because of that man." It just shouldn't be that way. God's revelation is obscured.

I know that some will reference Sacred Scripture which says that there is a blindness that will be removed at the proper time. I look at that as something different. That is the Lord's work. There are other barriers that have been erected by humanity that really shouldn't be there. Or is that all part of it? He allows it, disappointed as He is in us, until the proper time?

Blessings,
Hadassah
