Yes, we Jews do indeed believe in transmigration of the soul after a period of time in Gehenna (Purgatory). We do not believe we enter the World to Come until after the Resurrection.

You actually do have evidence of this in your own gospels, where everyone is looking for the latest incarnation of Eliyahu (Elijah, Elias). If I am not mistaken, I believe that according to your text, Jesus is to have said that John the Baptist was Elijah. He was making a claim about transmigration of the soul. Because Christians reject transmigration, they tend to ascribe meanings other than the obvious to this passage.

For whatever its worth, Jews believe that Elijah is a later transmigration of Pinchas in Numbers 25:10-30:1.
