Re: Rabbinical Catholicism?

hi Hadassah, Regarding Torah observance I am not saying anything "definitely." These are just my thoughts. The Church traditionally has had a rather negative position on Torah observance. Definitely too negative in my opinion (oops, I just said something definitively!). I think the Church ...

Re: Catholic Jews

That is not for us (Catholics for Israel) to decide. We tend to think that Torah observance is a good thing, and we view favorably those Catholic Jews who wish to keep the commandments. Some view Torah observance as essential, while others see it as unnecessary, useless or even wrong. We think that ...

Re: Will Israel Take Me?

shalom murraym and welcome, this is a very tough question that many believers have faced as they tried to do aliyah. I think the first priority to remember is what Jesus said about those who deny Him on earth... this can hardly be ignored. On the other hand, this is very difficult for those believin...

Re: Rabbinical Catholicism?

Yes I do realize that there are serious problems and that rabbinical Judaism cannot be accepted in its entirely, but I still think it should be the main point of reference for a Jewish-Catholic spirituality because rabbinical Judaism is the normative form of Jewish Orthodoxy.

Re: Rabbinical Catholicism?

Shalom Yarden, Good question - and I don't think anyone can have a set answer at this point. Of your three options I would exclude Reform Judaism because it seems to me way too watered down. I don't know enough about Karaite Judaism, but it seems to me that to keep a form of written Torah only witho...

Re: Pope Benedict XVI in Israel

Hi surfnetter, the Catholics have to go to the Jews for salvation, not the other way around There are big problems with your quotes above.. that is, I somewhat agree with the first part (that Catholics going to Jews can enrich their salvation), but the other way around is important too. There cannot...

Pope Benedict XVI in Israel

Anyone have any thoughts on the Pope's visit in Israel? While the Israeli media and some rabbis are certainly too critical and uncharitable towards him, I personally also think that his speeches were a bit disappointing so far and pretty politically correct. As if there were a ghost of Vatican aides...

Re: Hello, i am new and have some problematic questions

Welcome Photios and thanks for that reply Savvy. Apologies for the slow replies from this side Photios, with the papal visit to Israel this week things are pretty crazy. In any case, yes you are most definitely welcome in the Church (though surely you will also run into people who are not the most u...

Re: Vatican for a 2-state solution?

hi Rob,

The pope and Vatican's view on the State of Israel are a matter of Vatican diplomacy and not of doctrine of faith. Therefore I think that there is no problem for Catholics to respectfully disagree with them.

Re: "Like" One Under the Law

hi Mike, If I would ban anyone with an opinion contrary to mine here I would probably end up alone in the forum  Just kidding. Dr. Feingold's opinion is pretty much the standard one of traditional Catholic theology. In my opinion it sounds convincing mostly because that it is familiar and we ar...

Re: Statues & Veneration of Mary

[Messianic Jewish] liturgy is Jewish liturgy. The holy year is the Jewish holy year. The rites are those of Judaism. Messianic Jewish liturgy is Jewish liturgy? I would strongly disagree. In Israel anyway, I know of exactly one Messianic congregation that takes Jewish liturgy seriously. All the oth...

I don't think that would be possible Hadassah. Judaism is by its nature very communitarian, and keeping halakhah is centered around the community.

Gerat Tsedek, wow this is quite the journey. Thanks for sharing your point of view so clearly. I can totally empathize with your frustrations. You are right that Israel needs allies, and its about time that Catholics wake up to that fact, and realize that it is a biblical imperative to stand up with...
