I would tend to not go as far as Athol, and I'm not so sure rabbis today still sit on the chair of Moses and teach with legitimate, divinely sanctioned authority. However, I would also be cautious in rashly rejecting this claim as many Catholics do. So I'm an agnostic regarding this point. Certainly...

hi Ken, Welcome to our website and forum, and praise God that He is drawing you back to Himself! We're glad to read that you find our site helpful. Hopefully it will help you to reconcile your love for Israel and for Judaism, the good things you were able to find in Protestantism, and your new-found...

A blessed 'shana tova' (happy Jewish New Year) to all of you from Jerusalem and from Catholics from Israel!

shalom Thoma and welcome to the forum! Your question is a very good one. First, celibacy is of course as relevant today as it always was in Catholicism. Even though marriage is one of the seven sacraments and therefore very good and holy, the calling to celibacy was always considered to be 'higher' ...

hi Hadassah, re. your question about early church documents attesting differences in Jewish/Gentile believers and Torah observance - Justin Martyr talks about it somewhat in his dialogue with Trypho. His opinion regarding Torah observance is tolerant but not exactly positive. The truth is that all C...

Article by Ian H. Henderson

Richard just emailed me a link to an interesting article on legalism and anti-nomianism called Law and Unlaw by Ian H. Henderson which I though was relevant to the discussion here.

How is it, then, that Peter is (in Paul's words) "not living like a Jew"? I'm not sure what exactly Paul meant, but as Athol says I very much doubt that it means that Peter was sitting down having some pork chops with the gentiles. Keep in mind the decision of the Council of Jerusalem (Ac...

hi Hadassah, Just out of curiosity, are you Jewish? Please understand that I uphold the privileged place of Israel in the plan of God and treasure the foundation on which Christianity is built and the origins from which the Church continues to draw. How would you propose, then, for this "privil...

Athol and Hadassah, I am glad to see you're having quite a lively debate on this issue. For future reference, please try to avoid very long citations on the forum if possible - it would be better to add a link if the text is already online elsewhere. Regarding your quote from Gal 2, Hadassah, I woul...

Yes, I would generally tend to agree with Athol, though I might formulate it a bit differently. I do believe that one of the main reasons for the 'failure' of the Church to bring Christ to the Jewish people was that this would have caused their assimilation and practical dissolution of their Jewish ...

shalom Hadassah and welcome to our forum! I would tend to totally disagree with Mr. Lesch and say that the conflict is entirely religiously based. It seems to me that it is a foundational tenet of Islam that it simply cannot accept the presence of a Jewish state in a Muslim Middle East. It's true th...

Jews, proselytism and evangelization

shalom Sepharad and welcome to our forum! Thanks for sharing your story here. You certainly have a unique one and you are welcome to share more if you like. Jewish-Catholic dialog is precisely what this forum is about. Being relatively new it is still a bit dormant, but you are welcome to liven it u...

Pope Pius X, the Jewish People and Israel

yes Sepharad, what you write is essentially correct. Pius X inherited the "traditional" Christian response to Judaism's rejection of Christ which is aptly summarized in the sentence you cite: "The Jews have not recognized our Lord, therefore we cannot recognize the Jewish people"...
